ATestimony from a Homeschool mum: "Praying with other mums is a blessing

During the last Above Rubies retreat in March 2013 I came across Mums in Prayer – an international movement of praying mothers. Naomi, who introduced Mums in Prayer and the concept of praying together as mums through scripture, asked for anyone interested to speak to her. I approached her and we prayed together for the first time a few weeks later.

Naomi prepared a prayer sheet, which had scriptures for every part of our prayer: praise, confession, thanksgiving and intercession. How wonderful it was to talk to the Lord being guided by His own Word. I remember being really moved. Naomi and I have continued to pray on the phone regularly and we have become best friends. I can’t express what a blessing this prayer has been to me and my family. Each time Naomi and I got together the Lord gave us new insights into situations we have been praying for. I cannot count the number of prayers answered. Our children are the focus of our prayer and it has been incredible to witness the Lord working in their lives, transforming them and making them grow in their love for Him. Through praying together I have learnt to take everything to God and wait on Him. And He is so faithful.

Early this year a friend who I have not heard from for a long time got in touch with me. I could sense that she needed encouragement and asked her if she wanted to pray with me regularly, as I knew how much prayer with Naomi meant to me. So we started in March and now we both look forward to the hour each week when we wait on the Lord to speak to us and when we can pour our hearts to Him. Just before the summer holidays I spoke to another friend who is homeschooling her two beautiful boys. She also wanted to pray together. I love the way that each time we get together on the phone or skype we get to share what’s on our heart and pray specifically into situations or character issues. We hand our burdens to God and entrust our children to Him.

Praying for our children is so important. I love the fact that I can now do it regularly every week, in a structured fashion, using scripture and with my sisters in Christ. I am so grateful for technology, which has enabled me to pray with ladies in Wiltshire, Somerset and Surrey. Mostly, though, I am grateful to God for being our kind and loving Father who is interested in the minutest detail of our life and will never leave us.

P.S. My then 11 year old daughter was inspired by seeing me pray with Naomi on the phone she and her best friend started having Bible study and prayer times together on the phone at 6.30am! once a week also."
